I have always had a real love for helping people. Whether it was volunteering at nursing homes or just helping my Mom out around the house, it has always brought me joy.

When I went to college, it was the first time I had really ever been exposed to missions opportunities. There were so many trips that students could go on all over the nation and the world to minister to different groups of people in many different ways.

With this exposure, I actually started to consider doing a little missions work. During my second year of college (my first year at Evangel), a medical missions opportunity arose through Healthcare Ministries. I was extremely interested in this particular trip not only because it was in my field of interest but also because the trip was to CHINA!!

Needless to say, the trip truly opened my eyes to so many different things. I completely fell in love with the people in China and found their grateful attitudes to be so encouraging. Through our ministry, we were able to provide a wheel chair to a woman who was losing her ability to walk due to disease. We also helped a young 21 year old who had a neurological problem where he couldn’t open his mouth to eat or talk (he had been like that all of his life). Even up to this summer some of our group members were able to help support this man financial to allow him to have surgery on his jaw to change his life completely with the ability to talk and eat for the first time in his life!

Through our work there, we were also able to minister to a government official. She even told us “I want to know your God.” God’s hand was truly upon us while we were there.

After that trip and during my last year at Evangel, my desire to do missions work became greater and greater. It was beginning to be my #1 passion in my life and I became confused about my future and my career plans.

For spring break, I went with a few of my good friends to Maryland to see some of the east coast. While we were there, we went to my friend Laurisha’s church. She warned me before we went that I would probably be prophesied over and just told me to be prepared. All I said was “bring it on!” I wanted to hear everything this prophet had to say!

As promised, the man as well as countless others in the group gave prophecies to us girls. It was interesting though when it came to me. He first said, “now who is the missionary of the group?” Nobody raised their hands, so I guessed it had to be me since I did have a heart of missions. I raised my hand. He started to say how I had a love for Africa and for Ukraine. I thought to myself, I don’t think so! He also mentioned a few other things that have recently proven to be true. As I thought about the Africa and Ukraine thing I just couldn’t figure it out!

When I came back from spring break, my passion for missions only continued to grow. I decided one day to seek advice from a former Bible professor. I told him how my passion for missions work was beginning to overcome every other desire I had, even more than my passion for medicine. He advised me to really pray about missions, and to test out the waters of true missions work by going on a long term missions trip to see if I was cut out for it. So I began my research!

My internet surfing led me to the World Race! After looking at the possible routes to go on, I knew the January route 1 trip was the one for me. Funny thing is, both Africa and the Ukraine are apart of the trip! So we will see if the prophet is right!

I am so excited to see if missions work is my true calling in life. Please pray with me that God will reveal to me my purpose in this world and lead me where he wants me to go and help those who need to be reached! 🙂
