So I have had the wonderful, and sometimes trying, opportunity to be a nanny for two kids over the past 9 months. I’ve seen their highs and their lows. I’ve been there when they were rejoicing, complaining, screaming, crying, laughing and hurting. The youngest, a girl, is currently 21 months; while the oldest, a boy, is currently 3.5 years old. God has revealed so much about myself through this job, as well as revealing truths about Himself. It’s the latter I zero in on today.
A couple months ago, the kids and I were on our typically afternoon stroller ride back home from the park, when Aidan (the boy) made a comment that continues to resound within me. He pointed to a fence in some RANDOM person’s yard and said, “It’s broken.” I took noticed and confirmed, “Yes. Aidan, it is broken.” I thought that was the end of it, just the normal observant little boy’s thoughts. But no. Aidan popped up and innocently, yet confidently stated, “It’s okay. Daddy can fix it.” My first reaction was to laugh at the absurdity of Aidan’s dad walking over to a stranger’s house to fix their broken fence. But then I was reminded of The Kingdom I’m apart of and My Father in Heaven who truly can fix everything. I reassured Aidan that his dad could indeed fix that random person’s fence. As we went along back to the house, I meditated on the truth and confidence of that little 3 year old.
Aidan was so sure that his dad could fix that wooden fence. Why though? Had Aidan seen him fix a wooden fence? Doubtfully, for they have no wooden fence. I presume that Aidan’s belief and trust in his daddy’s ability to fix the fence was really the belief that his daddy could fix anything. It came from Aidan’s experience with his dad. The times when his daddy fixed his broken car, his broken toys, his broken paper, etc. Aidan had first hand experience of his daddy fix things around the house. So he began to believe that daddy can fix anything broken…even if it wasn’t Aidan’s or his dad’s problem.
The same is true of Our Father, God. He can fix anyone’s problems. He can fix it. My broken things, your broken things, and the random stranger walking down the street’s broken things. Since I’ve encountered God fixing an array of my own broken things from a broken heart to a broken stomach to a broken spirit….He MUST be quite capable of healing others’ broken things, despite whether or not I’ve heard a story or seen an example of that specific healing.
I desire, and pray for, child-like faith… like Aidan’s. I want to see brokenness in me and believe confidently that My Daddy can fix it, if I just ask Him too. (We have not, because we ask not.- James 4:2) When I see brokenness in my friends, my family, and strangers I want to CONFIDENTLY believe and declare, “Daddy can fix it.” And Daddy, Yahweh, does that through human believers. So you and i must step out and pray with others for Daddy to fix the brokenness.
Just reading the two accounts when Jesus sent out groups of people, both times He tells them to “heal the sick.” among other things. Seeing as He has also sent us out to be disciples too, we should be healing the sick through the authority He has given to us. We should be walking up to those “broken fences” of strangers and friends (and ourselves) and declaring over them with boldness and faith that everything will be okay because Daddy can fix it.
In Jesus’ words to the 12 disciples sent out, He says, “And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” -Matthew 10:7-8 The last sentence intrigues me. Why is it there? What does it mean? I’m sure we could all give a reason, but one that hits me this morning is the truth that we can give away that which we’ve received.
Therefore, consider what you’ve received.
What has the Lord given you?
How has the Lord encouraged you?
How has the Lord comforted you?
What peace has He given you?
What truth has He given you?
What has the Lord healed within your own life?
Did He heal your heart? your mind? your body? your spirit? your emotions?
NOW FREELY GIVE!
May the Lord open our eyes to see ways and people, even strangers, that we may give what God has given us. And may we move with boldness and great confidence, knowing that Our Daddy can fix it. In Jesus Name, Amen.
