One of the most mind-blowing things for me this month lies in the title of this post.

When we were all signing up for this trip a year or so ago, India was on the list of the eleven countries we would visit throughout the year. I would venture to say that around 85% of the people in my group signed up for this route specifically for that reason – because they had a desire to go to India. I know it was a huge factor in my decision making.

Then, about a month before we lauched, we all received an email from the home office that broke our hearts: “You will no longer be going to India but will be going to Bulgaria instead”.

Ouch. I know we’re supposed to be flexible and everything but that one really hit my heart hard for a while.

However, after some time, we all came to realize that such is life and you have to move forward and get excited for what is to come. So our mindset changed to:  “Look out Bulgaria, we’re coming for you!”

It was on the first day my team arrived to do ministry in Stambolovo, Bulgaria, that God blew our minds in regards to this topic.

In sitting down with our contacts to talk with them about the month to come, we expressed the fact that we were never really supposed to come to Bulgaria, but should have been in India instead. We were saying that we were excited about the change, because we felt like God had something bigger for us here than there, otherwise the switch never would have happened.

In response to this, John smiled at us and said, “Hmm… that’s funny, because the neighborhood we live in is predominantly gypsy and gypsies have Indian descent.”

WHAT?! Are you kidding me?! Here? In Bulgaria?! – Yes, I was freaking out in my mind.

How cool is it that God saw our desire to want to work with Indian people and still fulfilled it for us – just in a different context? Extra flippin’ cool! So flippin’ cool that there were countless times throughout the month that I would ask myself and my teammates if we were in India or in Bulgaria – because sometimes we just couldn’t tell. So cool!
