So a few days ago we made a major transition on the Race: our first continent change. Going from Central America to Eastern Europe has been quite the adventure. Sometimes, or rather, often times, we’re not quite so sure what to do with ourselves in this new place. We are now caught in between two worlds… or actually, three if you include our home in the States.
Here are a few questions I (along with most of the rest of my friends here) have been battling over the past few days in this transition:
- So wait wait wait… I CAN flush the toilet paper here?
- Does ANYBODY speak Spanish in this place?
- Did I look that man in the eyes for too long?
- We have hot showers, real beds, pillows, and space heaters? Is this real life?!
- This glass of wine really only costs $1.50?!
- This meat was seriously raised in the backyard? (So much less terrifying than what we eat in America)!
- They have real, live grass here?!
- Does anybody believe in a full cup of coffee here?
- Is that man in the mafia?
- How long would it take for us to get to… (your choice of: Italy, Greece, Macedonia, Croatia, or any other Eastern European country).
- What time is it in our Guatemalan minds right now?
- Did I get hit by a truck or is it just the jet lag talking?
- How can the people here eat so much bread?
- We can seriously drink the water from the tap? Without getting parasites?!
- I just had a solid poop? Is this really happening?! (I’m just being real… welcome to the world of living overseas… but Europe is treating us, or at least me, well so far!).
- How am I so blessed?
All of that to say: we have safely arrived in Albania! It’s an adventure for sure, but we love it. It’s quickly sucking us in and romancing our souls. We’re excited to see what God has in store for us here!
