Month 2 of the World Race I spent in Malawi serving at A.B.C.- African Bible College- in their Primary School for their Christian Academy. I was a teacher’s aid in a kindergarten class during the mornings and in the afternoons my team would visit the nearby village and other local ministries. A lot of my photos are from my experiences visiting other ministries or at the village in the afternoons. Malawi is a beautiful country- the people are kind, the mountains are breathtaking, the poverty and need is great, and the ministries are changing lives. I met so many people and walked alongside so many individuals doing incredible work in Malawi.
I am a few months behind on a photo blogs, but I have good wifi in Thailand, so time to catch up!
Here are a few highlights of my time in Malawi!
I captured this photo on an off day when my team hiked a mountain. Men and women hike up this massive mountain multiple times a day to gather wood for building. I thought the hike was challenging without a whole tree’s worth of wood on my head!
This was my team’s last Friday afternoon in the village. My team walked over to meet a woman and her kids who we initiated building her a new house with a non-profit. I ended up just playing with the kids.
My team visited a preschool in the village two or three times this month, playing games, assisting in the Bible lesson, singing songs, and helping to pass out snacks. This sassy little girl stole my heart.
This is at the same preschool I mentioned above. Kent, one of our Squad Leaders, and I played a game with music. You have to learn to be creative when you are asked to lead something on the Race and no one speaks English.
Sometimes when there is a language barrier you learn new ways to connect, play, and laugh: like drawing flowers and trees in the sand together.
One women our team met- Tia- is building a school for girls in a nearby village to Lilongwe. We were able to drive out and visit the site were the school is being built and meet some of the girls, pictured above. I love their joy.
Sometimes on the Race, you climb to the top of a mountain for the most breathtaking view. This has been one of my favorite ‘adventure days’ on the Race. Pictured here is Bethany, one of my teammates the first four months and one of my good friends.
Helping out at an after school program in the village.
Ethan and Bethany, two of my teammates from this month who are married. I love watching them serve as a married couple and as individuals on this Race. This candid picture is one of my favorites of them.
Lake Malawi- your beauty never ceased to amaze me on both visits during month 2. Fresh water snorkeling, stargazing, kayaking, friends, rest, worship, and campfires. I am grateful for these three and the friends they have been to me this year (left to right- Kate, Bethany, me, Rachel).
Thanks for taking a glance at month 2 in Malawi on the World Race! Look for Zambia and the Philippines soon.
