Getting on the plane today, I realized that I will not touch foot in America again for 11 months. That’s a long time. The next year of my life will be spent all over the world. I am officially on the World Race. I honestly didn’t think this day would ever come. I have always talked about the World Race in future tense and now it is my present tense. I think at times the year will drag. I’ll get tired of country hopping and I will just want to go back to America.

Groups of U-squaders are all over the plane. We are in our own little sections of 2-6 people. I get up and visit people from time to time, making the almost 15 hAirplaneour flight a bit faster. When we land in Korea, we will have a short layover and then hop on a 2 hour flight to Bejiing. We will spend a day in Bejiing and then take a 14 hour train ride to Harbin. I’m not quite sure what we will be doing in Harbin. I hope I enjoy China as much as I did the last time. I’ve been talking it up for the past two years.

It is sort of weird to sit on a plane with friends that I don’t actually know much about. I know everyone’s names and general facts but I don’t know them too well yet. When will people finally start sharing stories from their past? Once we start experiencing life together and have things to talk about from the day I think we will have more to say. I’m not quite ready yet to say, “tell me your life story, we have 2 hours.” Conversations come easy with some, but not all.

U Squad is very diverse. People are from all over the United States, and one Canadian. We have different home lives, backgrounds, and life experiences. We all bring something different and unique to the table. I can’t wait to hang out and work along side such a wide variety of people. I hope to learn about each person and learn from them. Until next time…
