Dear Friends and Family,
On July 11th I will be traveling to Atlanta, GA to meet my squad mates. Training Camp will be a time for all of us to come together and learn exactly what we will be doing in September. At camp we will broken into smaller teams which will be our “family” for the year. I am extremely excited for camp and anticipate seeing the friends I’ve already made through this process.
This letter is a follow up to my original support letter. Many people have express interest in contributing to my mission trip and asked me to send a reminder letter. I have currently raised $5,376, with another $3,000 in monthly pledges, bringing my total to $8,376.
Here’s what I need:
$11,000 by August 15th
$15,500 by February 28th
The August goal of $11,000 is a personal goal. This way I do not need to worry about funds during the beginning of my trip. The real deadline is December 1st. The second deadline is absolute.
What have I been doing to prepare? I currently have purchased all of my gear, which includes a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, 65 liter backpack, and daypack. I still need to order packing cubes and a few smaller items. I have researched all of the vaccines and malaria medication I need to take and will be taking care of that in July. Gear and vaccinations have/will cost me about $1,200.
Other preparations have included, meeting (virtually and by phone) my squad mates. Our squad consists of 60 people who live throughout America and Canada. I’ve been able to meet about half of them. Some I’ve bonded with quickly and can’t wait to travel the world with. Most people ask if I have any friends on this trip and the answer is yes!
As a recap, the World Race is an 11 month mission trip where participants will travel around the world to help “the least of these.” We will travel to 11 countries over the course of the year in order to serve in whatever ways are needed. Each smaller team of seven, will be partnered with an organization, church, or contact to serve with for the month. Depending on where each team is placed, there will be a variety of service projects and living conditions.
My World Race squad leaves in September 2013. We will be traveling to China first, followed by Thailand, Cambodia, Philippians, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, India, Nepal, Ukraine, and Romania. We will partner with orphanages, refugee camps, local churches, and other organizations to serve in a variety of ways. I was first drawn to the diversity of this program. I love that I will be able to experience many different cultures and serve in a multitude of ways.
