This is the 3rd week of fundraising and I can’t believe all that God has done! Every day He surprises me more and more. I am actually going to do a separate blog post in the next couple of days talking about each thing that has happened which have left me in utter awe and breathless for what God has in store for me. He is pretty amazing 🙂
So today, I went to a trail. I heard about it through Facebook, and saw it was close to where I lived. The pictures I saw were not very pleasant. There were a bunch of pictures of creepy doll heads, visibly aged by weather and time. Most would probably be too creeped out to even go. However, for some reason this trail intrigued me and I wanted to go. When I get to where the trail is, I am shocked of what was there. The artwork there was simply garbage that people took and made something artistic out of it; essentially creating something completely new out of discarded, filthy, items. At one point, I came across a fragment of a broken rock, which said “Love wins”. It was in the middle of some dirt, surrounded by the rest of the garbage, the art. Something about this particular quote stuck with me. I started to think, and it wasn’t until I got home that God revealed to me something amazing through this scene. Love wins. Of course that was what was put on the rock, but it really does win.
I couldn’t help but look at this artwork, this new creation, and see God in it. This is a perfect example of Who God is. He takes discarded, filthy, things and makes a new creation out of it. We are the garbage. The world will tell us who we are, how we should behave and think, what we should be. The world is a very cruel place. It will abuse us, lie to us, make us feel unloved. It will use us to the point of breaking then discard us without a second glance. However, this is not God. God takes the thrown away, broken, dirty items, us, and makes a new creation out of it. Why? Why would God take us, completely useless and give us this second chance? Because Love wins. You see, God doesn’t need us; despite this, He has chosen to take us and create something beautiful. To the world, we might still look disgusting and worth nothing, but that is not true. What the world thinks and says about us is not true. God sees us as beautiful, useful, sparkling diamonds, and His children. God loved us so much that He sent His son to die for us.
This is why I want to do mission work. The world is so good at lying to us. It makes us feel so unloved that some even feel like they don’t want to be here anymore. Not trying to be morbid but it’s the ugly reality. The world will hurt us and it won’t go easy on us. Sometimes, it even makes us forget this promise and fact, “Love wins”. I know what it is like to feel like an abused product of the world. The lies were so convincing that for years, I believed it. I believed I was not worth being here, I did not have a purpose. I believed I was garbage, like the ones I saw on the trail I went on today. Jesus swiftly put to death the lies that seemed to consume me. He showed me that Love is indeed alive, and wins. If I can be a part of God showing this to at least one person, I would be honored to play the part. You see, it is not us, in our own works, that show Jesus’ love to others; Jesus uses us and the love He showed to us to show others the radical love He gives. Jesus is Love. He is alive in us today. For one to have felt the love of God, their life cannot look the same as it did before. People will look and say to themselves, “Why do they act so caring? Why are they so loving? Why are they patient with me? What do they have? I want that.”
So if you today feel like you are simply garbage, useless, not worth a second glance, I want to tell you about someone that will change your life. There is someone Who will love you much more than you can even imagine, unconditionally. Someone that will change your life for the better. Someone that will calm your every anxiety, your worry. Someone Who will never leave you. Someone that will give you a 2nd chance, and a million more. This Someone’s name is Jesus. He is love. And when He came to die for you on the cross, He won. Love wins.
