I left a piece of my heart in Moldova. That piece is with Ana, Veronica, Victor, the orphans, Siani 30 and the people of Cornesti. That little piece is going to be forever praying for them and wondering how they are doing. I think a little piece of my heart is going to be left in every country I visit this year. I hope I’m so lucky.
It was so hard to leave. We got up at 5 a.m., and left for the train station. We had to wait for it to open, then we got on a hour and a half train to go what would take 20 minutes to drive. The customs we had to go through took an hour, maybe even more. Once we got to Iasi (pronounced yosh), we felt like we were in heaven! We took a train ride to a place where you sat on toilets and could flush them, a place where they sold peanut butter and pizza, a place where you pay 80 lei for a 5 minute taxi ride. It felt like a little slice of home (minus the taxi ride).
In a couple of hours we boarded our train to ride across Romania to our new Ministry site. We had a wonderful view of the mountains, and a beautiful sunset. Rachel and Becca even made a few new friends while watching “Get Smart”! early the next morning, we made it to the train station.
This month, we’re working at The Seventh Spring Camp. (It’s named after the area, called the six springs, which is known for it’s mineral water). We’re basically staff. Rachel and I are washing dishes with a sweet girl named Amalia, Becca and Val are cleaning bathrooms and doing laundry and Josh and Cody are helping Michael the caretaker with some work on the grounds. It was kind of hard at first to go from feeling like we are on the “front lines” to the background kind of work, but it’s so rewarding. The people here are friendly, the house we’re staying in is so nice and we are well taken care of. We have some time throughout the day to visit with some of the campers and we’ve also been doing some organizing of the donations they had.
I’m so happy to be here and ready to work hard!
