The Israelites were God’s chosen people. Most of us have heard the stories about how Moses led them out of slavery in Egypt and towards the promised land. We know they wandered for 40 years before they reached it – a journey that should have taken 11 days.
Don’t you wonder why they didn’t just get there? If they were God’s people, then why wasn’t their journey easy? Why did they have to fight battles, and avoid countries? I know they complained, but seriously.
I think it has something to do with becoming the people that God wanted them to be. They had spent generations in Egypt, getting used to the way Egyptians had done things. God wanted to take them out of society, out of comfort and out of everything they were used to. He showed them who he was, and what he could do, then he taught them. He taught them what he expected of them, and gave them new customs and rules to live by.
As I’m reading through the old testament, I couldn’t help but identify with the Israeli people. I feel like this year, god has plucked me out of my comfort and out of every thing I’m used to. He sent me to wander around the world for a year, learning and growing in him. Everyday I learn more about who god is, and what he means to me. I am experiencing my own time at Mount Sinai, along with the rest of my team. I constantly pray that my time spent here is glorifying to god, not only in the way I work and help others, but also in the way I grow myself.
I hope you’ll keep my team in your prayers this week. So far, our time in Romania has been one where we have been able to come together and build each other up. We’ve grown together as a team, and I know we’ve all grown individually. I really feel like god is preparing us for what is to come. We have one more week here, then we leave for India. The next place we will be staying at can be found at http://ashamission.com/. I hope you’ll check it out – it looks like they are doing amazing things!
