Botswana was a challenging, but one of my favorite months. This month my team and I did something a little different. Our team was Unsung Heroes. That means that instead of partnering with one ministry for the month, we travel around the country and find local “unsung heroes” that Adventures in Missions could partner with in the future. Adventures in Missions wants to be able to send more missionaries here, but they need more ministries and churches to partner with. So we got the opportunity to find these ministries.

God led us to some amazing people and amazing ministries. We first got involved with Hope Worldwide and Botswana International Church of Christ. They were so gracious to us and treated us so well. They gave us a place to stay, fed us delicious traditional food every night, invited us into their homes for dinner and pool parties. I felt so at home. Hope Worldwide and their church are very involved in HIV/AIDS education and promotion.

After a week we moved into a mission house that was owned by Acts Botswana Church. This was a church filled with young people who have so much energy and are in love with the Lord. We lived with James who did so much for us. He got us to where we needed to go. He got us in touch with people he thought would be good hosts for future teams. James and his friends had a cow head roasting for us. I never thought I would eat cow head, but I did and don’t really want to do it again. Acts Church has a gift to reach the youth and young adults in their community. They out a lot of emphasis on discipleship and community.

We met other great people and ministries as well. We went to His People Church who has a great college outreach. We met Word of Christ Ministries who disciple each and every member of their congregation. We met Adopt a Person organization who feeds and provides for over 2000 kids in the area. We got to work with 3 different Schools for the blind. We met with Youth Botswana and got to go to one of their big youth conferences. Through meeting with all these people it is so evident to see how God is working in Botswana.

The first half of the month we spent our time in the capital city of Botswana. But the last week, half of our team went north to Kasane to find contacts there. Read my next blog, coming in a few days, to find out about our experience trying to travel in Botswana, how God provided for us, and what is happening in Kasane!
