Recently I watched “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” for the first time with a couple of my teammates. The movie is about a man, a daydreamer, who is living a rather routine life and suddenly finds himself in trouble at his job when he misses an important photo for the magazine. Walter tries to contact the photographer but he’s unreachable. He then goes on a journey to find the photographer and it’s almost as if the photographer, Sean, had left clues so that Walter could find him. Walter eventually finds Sean, but not before Sean takes him on an incredible adventure.

Watching this I began to make a connection between Walter and me, at the same time, I made a connection between Sean and God. Walter had always daydreamed of adventure, but never stepped into that adventure until he had to search for Sean. He had to take risks and have faith that he was going to find Sean. Sean, whether intentionally or not, had left little clues behind to guide Walter along this adventurous journey to find him. In a way God does the same thing. God calls us to Him and provides a way to get to Him. And when God call us to Him he promises a life that is not ordinary, a life full of the extraordinary. A life full of adventure. But, in order to get to this adventure we have to jump into it. We can’t daydream about going after the Lord, we have to jump into it. We have to want it, we have to risk, we have to depend on Him, and most importantly we have to have faith that God will provide the way.

Life on the Race so far has surprised me, not because I am across the world, but because my life has felt so ordinary and normal… almost routine. After watching this movie I have realized that my life is anything but normal. It’s not extraordinary because I am traveling to 11 countries. It’s extraordinary because God is taking me on an adventure with Him. This adventure is going be and has been full of relationships, pain, love, hardships, and incredible people. But God is leading the way. He is the reason for this adventure. God is the adventure.
