Ethiopia
An ancient land that is filled with beautiful people, beautiful lands, and beautiful life. Ethiopia has been around for many years and is even mentioned a few times in the Bible. It has a culture that is rooted deep in hundreds of years of traditions, religion, and family life.
In Ethiopia, a majority of our squad was together and we had the opportunity to work with an organization called HopEthiopia. They are working in the community to be sure that the orphans, widowed families, and retired pastors are taken care of. Some of the children who are orphans live in a home on the compound and a widowed mother acts as a housemother. These children have a chance to live in a home, and not just be another child in an orphanage.
We lived on a compound in the middle of the countryside surrounded by the vast Ethiopian landscape. We were involved in many different projects throughout the compound and the village. We painted, gardening, moved rocks, mixed cement, sifted gravel, planted seeds, and built relationships with the locals that live and work and the compound.
Throughout these many different projects there was a common theme.
New Life.
Those words have so much value and many different meanings. Each project that we were doing brought new life. When we were planting seeds for the garden, we were bringing life giving food to the people that live in the compound. When we worked at the reforestation project, we were bringing back the life that once covered the vast landscape. When we were painting walls, we were bringing new life to the houses that will one day be homes to many orphans and widowed mothers.
There is New Life in Ethiopia. Not because of us, but because the Lord was using our teams to bring His life to this country and the beautiful people of Ethiopia.
