God has been stirring this little message in my heart for a few days now. I was going to wait on this but I believe it is for someone specifically today–

This time of year can get a little crazy. Am I right? We get invites to Christmas parties, we get busy buying gifts, we are still adjusting to it being pitch black at 5:00pm (oh, that’s just me..cool), we look forward to the time off work or getting finals over with to start break, or finding that perfect outfit to wear for Christmas day, finishing projects, or the perfect recipe from Pinterest you want to try. We stress over getting our houses organized and probably buy a few new pieces of decor so when the fam comes in, everything looks “just so.”

Out of breath just thinking about all of that? Yeah, me too.

I have been learning to not look forward to things or events so much, that I am unable to see what’s been placed in front of me. Too many times this year I have caught myself looking forward to: a new year, Friday, summertime, when school starts again, the next mission trip, etc.. I believe our society has trained us to be expectant of new things so much that we do not see the needs around us. I am guilty of this, too.

Exodus 14:14 “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Today is my birthday and it is hard not to think about celebrating my birthday in another country on new adventures this time next year, but today I am reminded of Deuteronomy 30:16, “For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws..” Be in the today. Be in the here and now. I know you’re busy. I know there’s a lot to get done in the next couple of weeks, but slow down, find comfort and lean on The One who created you. When the Holy Spirit lives inside of us, we have the powers of Jesus inside of us.

Here’s what I ask of everyone who reads this, do not let yourself get so busy this season especially, so tied up with the holiday whereabouts or looking forward to “what’s to come” that you pass by opportunities God has placed in your path today. God has already defeated the stressors and anxieties for us–so be still. He’s got you.
