40 Random Facts For My Squadmates (And Anyone Who Wants to Read)

1. I was born in Alaska, but only lived there for 6 weeks. I still consider it my homeland.

2. I don’t watch a lot of movies. If you name one, chances are I’ve never seen it, may never have heard of it, and if I have seen it I don’t remember much about it.

3. Titanic is my favorite movie. This is the one movie that I can almost quote through enitrely. And no, there was not room for both of them on the door!

4. Since everyone’s mentioning their height, I’m 5’8″, which I don’t think is particularly tall (especially compared to some of you guys, like seriously? lay off the steriods). However, I do often feel like I’m towering over most of the people I pass on the street.

5. I’ve never actaully been camping before.

6. I want to fly a plane one day, and possibly get my private pilots license.

7. I hate flying. I hate turbulence. I really just hate not being in control of my life.

8. I firmly believe that bananas are the fruit of the devil. That may be a slight exaggeration, but I really do not like them. I don’t like the smell, I don’t the sight, and I most definitely do not like the taste of bananas.

9. I’ve slept with a fan blowing next to me for the last 15 years. I’m sure going to miss it on the Race.

10. I would rather be cold than hot any day of the week… racing in all of these tropical countries should be… fun…

11. When texting (or writing a list of random facts about myself) I end up writing novels, because I cannot condense my thoughts.

12. I hate talking on the phone.

13. I’m pretty patriotic. My dad’s retired Army, and I’ve only ever lived in military towns (except college). I enjoy telling my friends about the Army culture (especially now that we’ve started watching Army Wives), and I just learned that most kids don’t actually grow up singing Army cadences. 

14. I love big dogs. I grew up with German Shephards and an Akita. I would really like a Giant Alaskan Malamute, but really any dog that looks like it could swallow a child whole will do.

15. I used to ride horses when I was about 8-10 years old, I even had my own horse named Kate. Now, I get super nervous around horses and cannot even fathom enjoying getting back on one. 

16. I have my open water dive license, but I don’t really like being in the ocean and I’m not a particularly great swimmer. Getting this license, though, was a HUGE accomplishment for me!

17. I swam with sharks in the South Pacific last summer. You haven’t lived until you’ve stared into the eyes of a shark.

18. Whales are my favorite.

19. I love looking at photo albums from when my grandparents were young. I feel like everything pre-1960’s was way classier. Maybe it’s just because everything’s in black and white.

20. I have a list of things I want to do before I’m 30, on the Race I will be crossing off going to Kenya. 

21. I’ve never actually wanted to go to Australia, I find it funny that God has called me to serve there. 

22. I sleep on the left side of my bed.

23. I have to make my bed before I can sleep in it. Even if it has been unmade all day, I have to make it before I lay down.

24. I’m not a messy person, but I always procrastinate on doing my laundry. 

25. Chocolate is my biggest weakness. If I’ve been having an awful day, I treat myself to a Dove chocolate bar and instantly begin to feel happier. 

26. I don’t find popular YouTube videos to be funny, especially if they involve cats.

27. I have a dry sense of humor. I’m not entirely sure what that means, but I’ve been told this countless times since I was a kid.

28. I’ve already written this “random facts” list twice and deleted it both times. Hopefully this doesn’t keep happening, or else its going to be a long, frustrating year of blogging.

29. I like Crest toothpaste, not Colgate. 

30. I’m in the same sorority that my mom and sister were in (Phi Mu). 

31. I really don’t like talking about myself.

32. I’m not a big talker, in general. Unless someone directly asks me a question, I tend to sit back and listen/observe the conversation.

33. I don’t look anything like I did when i was a kid.

34. I tend to refer to people as kids or children no matter how old they are.

35. I love practicing Yoga. I am no guru, though.

36. I love baking. Anything from cookies, to brownies, to cakes. I don’t always want to eat what I’m making, I just enjoy the process of baking. Sometimes I just need to bake something!

37. James is my favorite book in the Bible. Moses is one of my favorite story lines in the Bible. Both have reasons behind them. 

38. I will likely be spending my 23rd birthday in Ukraine. 

39. I will probably be using a pillow pet as my pillow on the Race. I will be giving it a test run during training camp

40. I like to go to bed around midnight (which makes me an old lady to all of my friends). It’s currently 12:30 and I’m about to pass. out.
