“The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.” – Albert Einstein

Money’s tight. Too many mouths to feed. Groceries are bought on credit. The creditors come looking to collect but you have nothing to give them except…

your daughter.

In Thailand shaming your family is just about the worst thing someone can do, so she goes without protest but is terrified on the inside.

She is the oldest and it is her responsibility to take care of the family. But she is only fourteen years old, doesn’t have an education, and cannot get a legitimate job. So, what does she do? She turns to what can get her money fast. She sells her virginity. The money should last years but greed takes over and before she knows it she is selling herself again and again and again.

To you and I these stories are disgusting. Here in the beautiful country of Thailand they are an everyday occurrence that is “normal.”

This month the ladies from my team and the ladies from 341 are teamed up with HELP Thailand.

At first I was a little upset to hear our ministry was changed from going into the bars and building relationships with the women already in the sex trade to working with children and doing manual labor. The bar scene is the where the heart of the industry is. Things are messy but that’s where the problem gets tackled. Or so I thought.

Don’t get me wrong. Bar ministry is important and very necessary. Those women (and men) need to see their value and alternatives.

However, I now see there is incredible value in what HELP Thailand is doing. They are fighting at the frontline, getting at the root of the problem. They are getting to the kids before they are sold. They are providing the alternatives starting with education.

This organization takes in children at risk for being sold into the trade. They feed them, clothe them, educate them, and love them at no cost to the families. Their goal is to create a generation of Thai people who are equipped with the skills and education to provide a livelihood for their family

TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT.

Currently there are four homes in this area of Thailand with over 100 girls and boys. Part of our day is spent coming along side the house parents to create space for the kids to be kids and to love on them.

The feet that walk in these shoes will grow up and never know the insides of the Red Light District thanks to HELP Thailand.
