Hey you guys!!! My name is Emily Gilreath, I am 20 years old and from the small community of Hubbertville, Alabama. I am currently enrolled in my sophomore year of college at Belhaven University, where I study Social Work and Global Studies. One day I hope to further my education with international social work and working in the mission field. This is one of the many, many reasons I have chosen to join the World Race. I am so pumped about what the Lord has in store for me in the upcoming year!
How I got here: When I told my close friends and family that I was thinking about joining the world race, they weren’t enthralled (who would want their 20 year old family member on the other side of the world?). Leaving the United States for months at a time isn’t really something that you do in my town. My entire mindset had already been changed since I moved away to University, I knew I was set apart. Called for the greater purpose, and for months I was so desperately seeking that greater purpose and what my life was supposed to mean. I began looking into missions and I continuously felt the tug on my heart for an intercultural communication. My freshman year of college I went on my first mission trip, and I have never been the same since. I know that missions and spreading the gospel is where God wants me. One night, when I was in deep prayer and thought about joining the world race, the Lord affirmed everything for me
. He gave me a verse in my mind, Romans 10:14-15, ” How can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring Good News.”
I am SO STOKED about the future and where I am headed! Subscribe to my blog if you wanna check out some really cool stories, just about how the Lord is working in my life 🙂
