To the Minnesota team, Ate Grace says hi and she says that she cannot wait to see you next month.
We were able to here about how Mount Moriah Camp started and the dream that was behide it the other night. Grace talked about how she dreamed to serve the people that had no money and origianally she wanted a camp that ministered to 11 to 13 year olds. They would only run camp in the summer and most of the time they would feed the children and not know where the next meal was coming from or even if there was going to be a next meal at all. The children could come to camp, learn about Jesus and not have to worry how to pay for camp. This camp is truly for the children in the town that are poor but do not qualify to be in the orphanage home. Ate Grace talked about how starting the camp took a lot of sacrifice, obediece and trust. When they believed that the Lord would provide, the food that they needed would show up or someone would sponser a meal or two.
It has been so great to see how this camp started and where it already has grown. One of my squadmates got a vision for the camp that it is going to have a ripple of love spread throughout the community and beyond. Just like when a rock is thrown into the water and the ripples go out from where the rock landed, so to will the love of Christ be spread out with the center as the camp.
Even though they were originally looking to minister to the 11 to 13 year olds, the camp has grown to accommodate all ages. Every Saturday, they say anywhere from 200 to 500 children show up for the Awana program which started out as a program with 15 children. A couple of drivers will go into Malaybalay and pick up the children and bring them out to the camp. At camp, the children play games, learn about Jesus, and they are fed one good meal where they are allowed to eat as much as they want. Many of the children that come, do not get to eat on a daily basis and when they come to the Awana program, they are garenteed food. This past Saturday we only had about 200 children but Ate Grace says it is harvest time so the children are needed in the fields to harvest the crops.
