Week one of an 11 month mission trip down. Let me tell you about my first week. I got to Shalom international school on Saturday the 8th and began teaching English on the 10th. I am teaching… I’m going to say 3rd grade. It’s hard to tell exactly what grade because there are kids who are as young as 6 to as old as like 8 or 9 in my class. They just got three new classrooms so on our off time from teaching we paint the new classrooms both inside and out. We also have an amazing host. I can’t emphasize enough how great she is. Her name is Chantal and it has become my prayer that I could have the same humility and servants heart that she has. She cooks us delicious meals everyday, she will sit and answer the million questions that we have, she makes us popcorn in the pouring rain,  drys our flooded floor with her clothes, and she makes sure we are taken care of. We came to serve her and love on her and she just keeps out doing us on the love. I’m praying for ways I can or God can bless her twice what she has blessed me if you want to join me in that prayer.

So far the difficulties I’m encountering with teaching is learning there names because they are hard to pronounce, the lack of resources they have to teach is something I’m processing through because of how easy it would be for me to get these resources and seeing how precious each book and classroom decoration is for them. The great thing about teaching has been getting to know the kids and the eagerness they have to learn. Basically I’m falling in love with these kids.

I titled this blog smile and wave because every morning and at the end of every day all the kids wave and say hello or bye over and over again. Each kid has to say his or her goodbyes. She we walk down the street most people stare and then wave and say hello. We feel like the penguins from the movie Madagascar.

I have so much more to say but my internet time is out. Until next time…
