Penang, Malaysia is chalkful of culture, religions, etc. It is extremely diverse.
I heard about a waterfall temple that is up in the mountains at the start of the month and; I felt led to go there and pray for the people praying to false gods. I wanted to pray to the real and living God in a place that we may think God isn’t, but truth is that He is, in fact, everywhere! Praise Him! Jesus is with us, before us, and after us!
Jenny and I had the chance to go to the waterfall temple at the end of the month, there we climbed stairs up the mountainside to get to the main temple. Each step, we breathed heavy, and I don’t know if it had to do just with the elevation and humidity, but it may have to do with the spiritual heaviness of the place.
What gets me, is all the beauty in nature that surrounds, including the mountains, trees, ocean, flowers, monkeys, plants, all of it —
—and people do not see the true God that created it all —
—including them in His very own image.
I pray they look past the statue and see the beauty in the true Creator.
It was hard to see a family and a few others worship an idol that is made of stone.
But—we had the chance to pray for the real and living God, our Father, there amongst it all.
Throughout the month, the Lord pointed me to Psalm 115 which I believe describes Malaysia and most of Asia and Isaiah 2:2-5 to pray that the peoples will see the Lord as chief among all the mountains.
Psalm 115:1-8
“Not to us, O LORD, not to us
but to your name be the glory,
because of your love and faithfulness.
Why do the nations say,
“Where is their God?”
Our God is in heaven;
he does whatever pleases him.
But their idols are silver and gold,
made by the hands of men.
They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eye, but they cannot see,
they have ears, but cannot hear,
nose, but they cannot smell;
they have hands, but cannot feel,
feet, but they cannot walk;
nor can they utter a sound with their throats.
Those who make them will be like them,
and so will all who trust in them.”
My prayer for Malaysia is for all the temples, mosques, and other places of worship that are praising a false god to crumple (figuratively) and come to know our true Lord and Savior, Jesus.
The beauty surrounding the places of worship and the beauty in their architecture can be deceiving. My prayer is for them to be able to look past the deceiving factors and come to recognize the beauty that is evidently from the Lord.
Isaiah 2:2-5
“In the last days
the mountain of the LORD’s temple will be
established
as chief among the mountains;
it will be raised above the hills,
and all nations will stream to it.
Many people will come and say,
“Come, let us go to the mountain of the
LORD,
to the house of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways,
so that we may walk in his paths.”
The law will go out from Zion,
the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
He will judge between the nations
and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nations,
nor will they train for war anymore.
Come, O house of Jacob,
let us walk in the light of the LORD.”
Lord, Jesus, please do bless Malaysia!
