Luke 5:4-7 (My paraphrase)
What a story.
We (and specifically, I) work so hard to do this thing called “following Christ” on our own. Peter was fishing on his own strength, just as I often attempt to minister, love and follow Him on my own strength.
Peter kept putting his nets into the water over and over again where it was safe and known. And unfortunately, he didn’t catch a thing.
Jesus asked Peter to go deeper.
To go deeper and let his nets down.
Jesus is asking us to go deeper and let our nets down. And when that happens, the catch will be many fold.
We have to take a risk.
This isn’t just in our service to others – actually it is far from that.
It is in our depth of intimacy with Jesus, Himself.
He is calling us into the deepest waters. To let down our nets.
What does that mean for our walk with Jesus?
It means, in our quiet times with Him we are to seek Him more deeply. We are to let down our nets (our strength, pride and our plans) in the depth of His love.
And, I think we will be surprised. Jesus will fill those nets, although, not as we would always expect.
But He is faithful to fill them.
And then, we have no idea what He will do with our lives.
What was next for Peter? Well, he gave up everything to follow this man named Jesus (Luke 5:11)
