While I was writing my last post, I started thinking about the power of "one" a little further.
It took ONE God to create the Universe.
It took ONE man to shatter the bond between God and mankind with sin.
It took ONE Man to die on a cross, to restore the broken bond between God and mankind.
It takes ONE moment to accept the call of Christ.
God can use ONE person to start a ripple effect among his or her family, drawing each ONE to Him.
Jesus calls His Church to be ONE…and Paul exhorts the Church to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace… in ONE body…ONE Spirit…called to ONE hope, ONE Lord, ONE faith, ONE baptism, ONE God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all (Ephesians 4:3-6)
God has called my team to be ONE…unified by the love of Christ, in the grace of God, through the power of the Holy Spirit.
And yet I have to be honest and say I've been so used to being my own "ONE" that the thought of living with, working with, and breathing the same air as my teammates for eleven months, 24/7, is a little bit daunting. I'm afraid that I've learned to be so independent that being in constant community is going to be quite the challenge. But I believe it will ultimately be good…and I pray that through it, I'll be able to learn a bit more about the power of ONE.
My best friend gave me an awesome passage last night from Galatians 5:13: "You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love." I then skimmed up a few verses and came across this: "The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." (Galatians 5:6). (emphasis mine)
FAITH…HOPE…LOVE… but the greatest ONE of these is LOVE.
I guess I have a lot yet to learn before I understand the Power of One.
