After a particularly fun filled weekend at a church camp in Jaco, Costa Rica Juan direction was extremely tired and laid down for a nap once we had gotten back to Saint Sebastian. I had this super specific dream that I was really consumed by. While I was sleeping I woke up and wrote a message on my hand that I later found when I woke up a few hours later. “ it’s not about the value, it’s about the experience”…. okay, I’m confused God. I hadn’t remembered writing this down and was struggling to figure out what it meant or what message God had to tell me. After praying about it for a few days and asking the Lord to tell me what the heck he wanted me to know I think I have finally sorted it out.
In the dream I was riding in a car with some girl I know from back home that I know is not a Christian. She told me that she decided to become a Christian and I asked her why. She explained that as a Christian you should have this deeply rooted hunger for more of Christ just like when you’re starving in real life and driving down a road looking at a street full of restaurants… you want them all, you want to taste what every restaurant has to offer you. Look at chipotle as prayer, Buffalo Wild Wings as community, Chili’s as spending time in the word, and Mr. Sushi’s as worship. No matter what price range that restaurant is or what you order you’re going to be filled up quickly, you’re going to be filled up fast, you’re going to feel satisfied. Let’s be realistic, if it’s fast food you’re going to be hungry again shortly after and need another taste.
God doesn’t want us to only be filled up through prayer, just like the way we’re not going to only eat Chipotle every day for the rest of our lives. He wants us to have a hunger to know more and ask for more from him. He wants us to need all different tastes to fully grasp the ways that he can satisfy our hunger. He is the only one that can satisfy our hunger and needs just like food is the only way we can get proper nutrients to survive. He wants us to be starving, get food quickly, be filled up, feel satisfied, and then crave food all over again. It’s a cycle that he intended us to be a part of not only physically for survival but spiritually in the way that we pursue Him and desire him.
He wants us to have a hunger for Him and he wants us to be filled up in more ways than one. Your spiritual life is more than the community you’re surrounded by and the prayers you say, it is about ALWAYS seeking more and never growing tired of finding ways to be fulfilled. Let God change your life, just like trying that Indian restaurant that you feared so much did. You love God… and now you love Indian food, it’s a win win. Take the risks to know all the different tastes God has to offer you.
Thanks.
Em.
