2011 Woodlands Church Medical Mission Team to Peru
January 2011
For the past 3 years, I have had the opportunity to be a part of Woodlands Medical Missions to our partner church in Condevilla, Peru. I was ecstatic to learn I would be serving in Peru on the World Race and eagerly anticipated finding our ministry location.
It wasn’t Condevilla. It wasn’t anywhere close to Lima. It was Trujillo. Though I was sad I wouldn’t be able to meet up with my Peruvian family, I learned that I like all Peruvians. The ones from the north are pretty great too…
During our epically long travel day(s) from Trujillo to Lake Titicaca, we had approximately 8 hours to chill in Lima. My dream was to nonchalantly walk into Esperanza Viva (our partner church) and show up for service. It just so happened that I was in Lima on a Sunday morning…
And then we realized the bus station was too far away and it would have been nearly impossible to get there. Sorry to ruin the story… just remember that I was the one living through such sadness.
But, to redeem the story, I was able to travel to Miraflores. This section of town is where our teams have stayed at Hotel La Hacienda, eaten dinners at Larco Mar, strolled the park and shopped the Inca Market. And I was able to do all those things. And I made a video while doing them for all my former teammates back home.
It was nostalgic for sure, but it made me miss my church family back home. Love you guys! Here’s a video just for you:
