Muizenberg Beach is known for it's colorful beach huts.

Hopefully this blog finds you well as you’re preparing for the holidays. Whether you’re finishing that last final exam, putting up the remaining Christmas decorations, shopping for that last present or getting ready for the relatives, I pray you have a little time to breathe amidst the chaos. Thanks for taking time to read my blog!

If you had a chance to watch my last travel video, you know it was quite the excursion! After 3 days of travel, we arrived safely in Cape Town, South Africa and quickly settled into our home in Muizenberg, a smaller suburb. While Romania reminded me a lot of home- cows, corn, and cold, South Africa is far from any thing I’m used to! For starters, they have a beach-

This is the view at 7am!

And they don’t have snow.  So, for the first time in my 25 years of existence, I won’t have a white Christmas. Sad day. But, I make the most of what I’ve got…sand angel it is!

Not quite the same as the snow in Wisconsin…but I'll take it!

Muizenberg is a laid-back surfing community that is currently packed with people due to the holiday. In South Africa, every body gets 2 weeks off before the new year- kids are out of school, businesses have shortened hours, parents and business people let their hair down and everyone heads to the beach. Pretty sweet right?

Got apples? A bag of 16 apples is 8 Rand, about $1 USD.

Before we started our ministry for the month, our contact wanted us to experience on of Cape Town’s most visited site: Table Mountain. It was currently voted one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. So, still a bit jet-lagged, Family Force 6 hiked to the top to see the breathtaking view. It’s incredible to see two oceans collide (Atlantic and Indian) and know the only thing between me and the Antarctica is water. Maybe Santa will make a stop to the South Pole this year…

We’ve hit the ground runnin’ here in South Africa. After our trek to the top, we explored a bit of the town and ate fish ‘n chips, the meal of choice around here. We’re in full swing with the soccer ministry and are also beginning to serve at a day care in a township. On average, we walk about 9 miles a day between ministry sites. Needless to say, I don’t have a problem falling asleep at night! More details to come… As for now, I’m slathering on the sunscreen and sporting shorts and a t-shirt everyday. So far, so good!

As usual, I recorded some of our journey up Table Mountain so you could experience it too!

Planking. It's the latest picture fad, especially on the Race!
