What…what’s that? A BLOG?! *gasp*
Okay but really I know I’ve done a terrible job at blogging, and every time I write one I’m like “I’m going to be more consistent from now on” and then I never am. BUT. I’m here now and that’s all that matters, right? Right.
So what have I been up to since leaving Rwanda? I’ll tell ya.
Uganda came next and it was a very challenging month. My team partnered with LightForce Uganda, and that month…built a lot of character. I spent the first week and a half shoveling out pens that previously held goats, and also helping turn over the compost.
At first we just scooped a little poop and piles of dirt and it was okay, but then we got into a real mess with about 10 inch deep hay that had never been cleaned out before. It was solidified from all the goat pee and poop that had been festering there for who knows how long. Yaaaaaay character building!
After shoveling goat stuff…we moved on to the compost. Ooooh, the compost. Me and 3 other teammates stood knee deep in gaseous heaps of compost for the week and it was honestly miserable. I don’t think I’ve ever complained so much on the race. It was smelly, it was HOT out, there were giant grubs all over the place, and one of the days I was raking too aggressively and actually fell into the compost. But we did it, and I built character…I guess. Below is our finished product. It doesn’t look nearly as gross as it actually was.
THIS, now this is the fun part. We got to switch up what we were doing after the first week and a half. So after doing manual labor, I decided to head to the LightForce school and try out being a P.E. coach. I’ll admit, I basically followed Michael’s lead the entire time and I came up with no original games or anything because let’s be honest, I’m no athlete or coach… BUT I absolutely fell in love with the kids. Spending the last two weeks with them absolutely MADE my month. They were totally worth the goat poop and compost. Here are a few pictures of my favorite students (I know teachers aren’t supposed to have favorites but oops).

Now, for our adventure days! Our off days were mostly spent resting around the compound and hanging out with the kids and each other…but we got to sneak away for a weekend to RAFT THE NILE RIVER! What is my life! I’m living in an absolute dream. It was crazy awesome and I only got a little sunburnt 😉
Keep your eyes peeled for a post about Kenya. It was a doozy of a month, so you’ll for SURE want to hear about it!
