Month 5 is coming to a close, and here’s what it looked like!
Upon meeting our host for the first time, he told us we’d be doing some light trekking through the mountains… well a 6 hour long “light trek” later and I actually thought I was dying. I literally tried to quit so many times but my Michael stuck with me the whole way and listened to me complain, and then sarcastically yell “I LOVE TREKKING” and “I’M SO IN SHAPE” and “I’VE NEVER FELT BETTER ABOUT MYSELF” the whole way up. Please admire the above photo of me on top of the mountain, stuck on this pillar because my legs were too noodle-y to get me back down.
I’ve been spoiled on the race so far and have been blessed with a washer every month…until now! Nate had to teach me how to hand wash my clothes, so we got to bond while hanging our unmentionables on the line to dry.
At 7am every morning we left for the slums. A 10min walk down the road and a 20min bus ride and we were dropped off right in front of our little hole-in-the-wall chai spot. Our hosts son, Wolverine (in the blue) has been going to the same chai guy for 4+ years!
After chai time we walked 10 minutes down the road into the slums. Wolverine would gather up the kids and sent them into the small classroom where we got to teach them about the creation story! On the first day Michael taught from Genesis 1, and in the days following we did crafts to help the kids understand creation and use their imaginations. We had them do activities like pick leaves and lay their paper over it to outline it with crayon, and we also had them draw their favorite parts of creation.
After the slums each day we would head over to the center that our hosts have for at-risk women. We got to make jewelry, teach them English, and have an English Fair where we played games and they won prizes at the end! It was amazing hearing our host talk about these ladies’ stories – many of them come to English classes in secret for fear of what their families might think or because they’re ashamed of trying to learn something new.

Church happens on Saturdays here in Nepal, and one morning I got the opportunity to share part of my testimony for the first time! Church was about 40 people crammed into a tiny room, but it was still sweet to be able to share my story and look into the faces of those 40 people.
Finally – we spent our off weekend at Nagarkot where we got to watch a beautiful sunset and grab dinner together, rest at our hostel and have a slow morning full of potato curry and masala tea *insert all the heart eyes*

This months ministry has been amazing, the off days have been so fun and relaxing, and bonding with my new team is going a-m-a-z-i-n-g. But to keep you guys informed on what’s going on with ME personally…here it is!
This month the Lord has been showing me over and over again that I am enough.
I’ve always struggled with feeling like I’m too much and not enough at the same time. I thought I was too big and too loud, and I was never what people were looking for. I couldn’t be the person that I thought people wanted me to be. Silly, right? But so true.
These first 5 months of the race have been a beautiful display of the Lord’s love and desire to have my whole heart. We’ve spent countless conversations together unraveling the lies I’ve believed about myself for so long, and rebuilding the foundation where I find my identity. So now I’m choosing to walk in freedom, knowing that I’m just enough for God and for what He’s called me to in this season.
And that’s where I’m at! Living free and easy and funky fresh.
Thanks for checking in 🙂
