Tonight, I hung out with 3 girls from my small group. We went to dinner at Outback Steakhouse, tried to be crafty at JoAnn Fabrics, then ended up at Target to “browse.” Of course, the “browsing” didn’t last long as our cart began to fill up. We all continued to make mental notes of things to tell our friends and family of what we want for Christmas. After taking a good look around, we went to checkout. We were trying to find the shortest line and I said to my friend, Joy, “Lane 6 is empty.” Then, we both looked at each other with excitement and said, “Wanda!” You see, Wanda is our favorite Target checkout person. Yeah, I know, we sound pathetic that we have a “favorite” Target checkout person, but I am sure if you went through Wanda’s lane, you would have one too! She is so sweet. A light and a joy radiates out of her smile, words, and tone of voice. She is a hard worker and is working just about every time we are there (and we go there a lot). She appears to love her job and enjoys talking to people. There is something different about her that makes her stand out from the rest. You know, I have talked to Wanda before just the usual customer-cashier small talk. I am not sure if she is a Christian, but I know a true joy radiates out of her. I only hope that a joy like that radiates out of me. It is my prayer that when people meet me and see me that they see something different. That they can see Jesus Christ in me and through me and that my words, actions, expressions, and touch provide them with an encounter with a active and living God. It is my prayer for you, that you too, live your lives as healthy representatives of Jesus Christ pointing people to the cross through the way you lives your lives. I hope that you take this as a challenge!
For those of you who live in Jackson, try to go to Wanda’s lane the next time you are at Target, you’ll know what I am talking about!
