So, we needed to renew our Cambodia visas and our options were to go to the U.S. embassy and pay them money OR take a trip to Vietnam for just a little more money.  We chose option # 2.  We left on Monday at 7:00am and endured a 6-hour bus ride, which really doesn’t seem like anything anymore.  We arrived in Ho Chi Minh City also known as Saigon.  We quickly found our hostel.  Due to our short time in Vietnam, we decided to start touring the city right away.  We found a taxi and went to the War Remnants Musuem.

I’m not much of a history person, but this was interesting because I know people that were here, that fought, that experienced the photographs we saw.  I can’t imagine seeing or being involved in some of the things first hand.  There were many boxes out for donations to help war victims and agent orange victims.

Later that night, we went out to dinner at a restaurant called Black Cat.  It was on CNN International’s Top Ten Restaurants to Eat At because of their 500g burgers.   Andrew and Spano shared one.  It was the biggest burger I’ve ever seen.

Dang!

On Tuesday, we woke up  early and left for a  one-day Mekong Delta Trip.  This time it took us 2.5 hours to reach our destination.  We hopped on a boat to go to the floating market.

We stopped to watch local Vietnamese people make coconut candy, rice paper, and rice krispies.

Next, we were taken to an island where we had a traditional Vietnam dish of fresh-made spring rolls, elephant ear fish, rice, pork chops, etc.  It was really good!  (Check out http://anniebower.theworldrace.org for a picture of the fish)  After the lunch, we went for a bike ride around the island.  It was beautiful!

After the lovely bike ride, we got to get into boats rowed by local Vietnamese people and we got to where sweet Vietnamese hats.

After the little boat ride, we were given fresh coconuts.  mmmmhhmmm!

Next, we made a stop by the market.  We are kind of “marketed” out after going to markets in every country, but we definitely found our way to the iced coffee stand and finished our day in the Bonsai Gardens.

Then, we took the 6 hour bus ride home.  And started strong again on Wednesday, i’ll post those pictures tomorrow!
