Our time in Nepal was short but sweet. Here is a summary of our time in Nepal.

My theme for the month was new beginnings.

We started the month with a team change. My new team has already brought me so much life and light. You can learn more about my team here.

For a few days at the beginning of the month, I was feeling lonely and ready to go home, but God gave me renewed vision and energy. I am ready and excited for the next part of the Race and everything God still has in store for me to do and learn!

Ministry this month also included new beginnings. Check out the different opportunities we had to serve alongside a local organization.

Women’s center: One of the organization’s main ministries is a women’s center where eight different skills and trades are taught, including tailoring, cooking, and beauty school. Women are also able to take English classes. Some women at the center are learning English without telling their family. They fear not being allowed to continue, being looked down on for taking time away from their family, or being made fun of for trying to learn something new at their age. They want to learn English so they can relate to their educated daughters-in-law, speak with their grandchildren in English, or get a good job. Many of the older generation of women in Nepal were not educated; they helped raise their siblings and do work around their parents’ home until they got married when they were as young as 12-13 years old.

Our team spent part of the month teaching English classes at the center. We were also able to lead an English Mela, which was a fair where we had English games at different stations and awarded prizes at the end. The fair was a lot of fun and brought new students who signed up to take English classes.

Tutoring: Our hosts and their siblings have foster kids. We helped them with homework before and after school and also helped them get ready for the day.

Slum ministry: We went to different slums in the area and did a variety of activities with the kids, including teaching English, playing games, doing crafts, singing songs, and sharing Bible stories.

Rec center: We did some painting at a youth recreation center where kids in the area can go to play sports, be tutored, take music classes, and much more!

Soccer: We played futsal (indoor soccer) once a week with the team of local missionaries. We also played soccer with street kids, and it was so much fun!

Church services: Our team shared testimonies and teachings at church services.

Trekking: We did some hiking and praying walking in the Himalayan mountains!

As always, my ministry this month included logistics work. Planning debriefs, transportation, etc. God is always teaching me something through this role, and lately it’s been how to find rest in him even when my circumstances don’t feel restful. He is so good to me!

I apologize for a lack of blog posts from India and Nepal. We have to be careful what we share to protect the local ministries.

My squad arrived in Rwanda yesterday! We will be spending the next four months in Africa.
