Thanks to you, my wonderful partners in ministry, we have reached the halfway point for funding this 11-month mission trip. It feels great to be over the hump and on the way downhill. Here are the numbers, if you’re interested:

75 days of fundraising
9,150 dollars raised
45 donations
41 individual supporters
2 anonymous donations

I’d like to take this opportunity of being halfway funded to share what my team will be doing and where we will be halfway through the Race. First of all, it will be mid-June when we are halfway done. In fact, depending on our exact date of launch, the halfway point may be on my birthday, June 13th. We will likely be in Rwanda. Lord willing, we will have already served three months in South America and two months in southeastern Asia.

At this point in the Race, my team will probably be used to life on the move. We will have transitioned from one country to another five times, changed cities even more times than that, and served in many different ministries and roles. I like to think that at this point in our 11-month journey, the verse 1 Corinthians 9:22 would be true of us: I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. Flexibility, adaptability, a willing heart—these are qualities we will have had ample opportunities to practice and work on.

After living in constant, close community for more than five months, hopefully I will be a pro at loving my squad members well. Forewarning, I am an introvert. I need time alone to regain the energy it takes to pour into the people around me. After lots of practice, feedback, and no doubt conflict and miscommunication, at this point we should be better at serving one another and working as a team for the glory of the Lord.

I imagine I’ll be missing home at this time, but luckily there will be an awesome opportunity for my parents to join me in Africa! Adventures in Missions arranges a Parent Vision Trip where World Race parents can join their “kids” on the field for a week of ministry. It’s an exciting time! Fingers crossed that my mom and dad will decide to come!

All this to say, thank you for your part in helping me reach the halfway point for funding and enabling me to dream about what life will be like at the halfway point of my mission trip, one year from now.

With love and a grateful heart,
Em
