The other day we visited a hospital and prayed for little babies with bronchitis. Then before we left we went into a room that held several ladies with various health problems. We came to one lady suffering of an enlarged heart. She was in a significant amount of pain and had a pretty bad cough.

My father being a cardiovascular physician, I have seen my fare share of heart patients. Usually I have the security of knowing that their pain will be short lived because they are about to go into surgery. I have talked with several people that did not know when or how they would get they help they need, but never a heart patient.

I guess I had taken for granted the fact I knew help was on they way for them when my dad was around.

It was quite unsettling for me to see that sweet lady in such pain without the reassurance of my dad telling her that she would be going into surgery soon and by God’s grace all would go well.

I came to the realization that I had more faith in the talents that God has given my father rather then the healing powers that God possesses. I still strongly believe That God gave doctors a great gift and that many times he chooses to work through them to provide healing.

But in the moments in the hospital the other day, and throughout the rest of the race, I feel that God is going to continually show me that ultimately He is the great healer. I am learning that one of the reasons He has called me to the race is to help turn people to Him for the comfort they are seeking.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits, who forgives all tour iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that you youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
