For you are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy-full of greed, and self-indulgence. First wash the inside of the cup and the dish, and then the outside will become clean, too.

Outwardly you look like righteous people, but inwardly your hearts are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness.” –Mathew 23:25-26,28

When you are looking to buy a house, you don’t just look at one you like and buy it right there on the spot. There are inspections and qualifications that need to be met beforehand. At the time, it just seems like a nuisance because you have to wait longer, but these things must be looked at before making such a big investment.

Recently I’ve done an inspection on myself. I have come to realize that in the outside I am a really good house, but when I took a closer look I found a shakey foundation. Theoretically I could live a long time, if not my entire life like this, and God would still choose to invest in me. That’s just who He is, He is a pursuer.

Earlier on in Mathew 7:24-27 it states, “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

I want to have a firm foundation built in Him. I want to pass inspections with flying colors, and to be a clean dish from the inside out. I want God to look at me and be proud of His investment. I am guilty of hypocrisy and believe that God can stabilize my foundation because He is constantly looking to improve His investments. Isn’t it cool that He chooses to invest in us despite knowing all of our faults? Because to Him, there is no fault too big for Him to fix.
