Hello friends-
Since 1992, 450,000 women have disappeared from Moldova, that is 10% of the population.
No one looks. No faces appear on milk cartons. It doesn't even make the news.
They're orphans. They're teenagers desperate for love. They're women with no prospects. One thing they have in common, they're all targeted by men.
They're teenagers who "fall in love" with an older man who convinces her he is in a life threatening situation and unless she has sex with certain people, he will die. She is in love. She is brainwashed. She needs the money to save her boyfriend.
It is not a choice. It is rape. It is abuse. It is trickery.
Orphans are placed in homes that resemble prisons. When they turn 16 they are given 30 dollars and a bus ride ticket back to their village. They have no family. No work prospects. They're rejects to society. This is when they come. They are watched, found and taken.
Women attend the University but know their degree is useless. Their ideal marriage age is 16-19. They know they will be divorced by 40. They accept their men will cheat on them or abuse them. Once their man is through with them they will move on to younger women.
This is the reality of Moldova. Where do you start? Do you begin with the orphans? Do you begin with the education of young girls to teach them self-worth? Do you begin by educating the population about the existence of trafficking?
This is the reality of our broken world. Ultimately, it will not be stopped. Women will continue to disappear.
Prostitution. Porn. Trafficking. Abuse. Low self-esteem. Abusive relationships.
This is not unfamiliar to the United States. In fact, if you know what to look for, it is everywhere.
I write this to simply educate. To open eyes to the reality of this world because these women deserve to be fought for.
There are people in this city who have dedicated their lives to breaking women out of trafficking. Creating business's to provide jobs for orphans. They are fierce lovers of Jesus and people. They are not naive to the fact this issue will continue but they are taking a stand and saying women are worth it. Saving one is enough.

It starts by changing your view point. Understanding that women in prostitution, trafficking, etc. are not their voluntarily. It starts by educating those around you. It starts by educating yourself. Take the steps and become more educated on this battle in your city today.
It is a broken world but we let that truth motivate us to do good, not cripple us.

Your hurting friend, ellie
All props regarding the information for this blog go to my American friend Gregg Montella who is in Moldova and fighting to educate, empower and assist women who have been or are targets of sex trafficking. Praise Jesus for those who have given up their lives to fight for these women.
