Rise and shine my beautiful people's!

Background: I am a Young Life leader (BEST thing EVER!) and to reduce the "awkwardness" of high schooler's meeting for the first time, us leaders like to do an Ice Breaker to magically sweep away all the invisible walls our kids put up when they first encounter people they don't know (let's be honest, this "awkwardness" is not limited to adolescents). A typical question would be…

"If you could be any celebrity who would it be and why??"
Gabrielle Union (duh). Husker fan and she is a major bad ass. (Sorry, the word was 100% appropriate for this situation).

For you, maybe you're able to answer this question in a matter of seconds and your answer could be based on:

1) Their looks (the personal trainer and your new diet has yet to give you the "bod" you see in the magazines. real moment: were a little too critical of our bods)
2) The role they played in a movie (basically you want their sweet but oh so fake skills)
3) The person they kissed in a movie (reality check: we all have a celeb crush)
4) Who they are in real life (let's be honest, we like to pretend we "know" the celebrities and we even talk about them that way ex: "Did you know Lady Gaga is buying a house in Omaha?" and then we begin to discuss the bizarness of this decision since we know her so well)

My point is not to say that celebrities lives aren't entertaining and movies aren't awesome, it's to say that for my entire life (literally) I have MAJORILY underestimated the power and amazing greatness of GOD. I had become so accustomed to hearing his name and stories from the bible, that I placed him in a seperate category as my celebrity friends (even below them at times, painful to say but true), when in reality no celebrity comes close to being as awesome as he is (in fact awesome doesn't even sum it up, no word in the dictionary does).

When this realization hit me I was sitting in my car and one amazing example after another of God's stellar skills flashed through my mind…

The man can walk on water. -Mark 6:45-51 (as the hipsters say, SICK)

The man can heal the blind and crippled. -Mathew 20:29-34 (as skateboarders say, GNARLY)

The man can raise people from the dead. -Mark 4:38-43 (as MC Hammer says, TOO LEGIT)

The man can cast out demons. -Mark 9:14-28 (as hippies say, RIGHT ON DUDE)

"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else." Acts 17:24 & 25

My friends, I am guilty of minimizing God. I'm guilty of hearing his stories and labeling them as "old school" or dull. I'm guilty of experiencing his amazing power, hearing about his miracles, and choosing to limit him to sunday service. What silly beings we are, forgetting about the very man who created us.

So my dear friends, may you see God today in the creation around you, be amazed by his goodness, and never become accustomed to God's amazing power.

May he be your everything,
Ellie

I hope you can't NOT "GO BUCK" for the Lord when you hear about His amazingness.
