Hey guys! I am so sorry it has been a while since I last posted but wifi here in Bulawayo is almost nonexistent. But I found some and now you are blessed with a blog!
Life in Bulawayo has been wonderful so far. Everything here is BEAUTIFUL- the houses, the plants, the people, and even the bearded dragons. It’s definitely not what I imagined Africa to be like. But it is unique in its own way. We don’t have much structure here as we mainly do whatever the local church needs us to do. So any given day could look different but I wanted to give everyone an update on what we have been doing.
Monday’s are a little weird. Usually, we call Sheppard (the person over kids at Bulawayo Baptist) and ask him what he needs done. So we have redone a banner for VBS and cleaned out some storage closets. These are the kind of Monday’s I need back in the states.
On Tuesday me and my teammate, Hallie, go to a local apartment complex to count and weigh eggs with a local couple. Tuesday afternoons are for listening prayer for local men living on the street.
Wednesday, we have bible study at a local market during the day and then young adult bible study at night.
Thursday, we only have bible study at a different local market during the day.
Friday is the busiest day but by far my favorite. Friday morning we help with the local soup kitchen. In the afternoon we go to Killarney (a squatter camp right outside the city) to love on the amazing people living there. On Friday night we help with the youth group- and this is by far my favorite thing! We usually play a few games, worship, listen to a message, and then split into small groups. But most importantly we get to make relationships with these amazing kids and invest in this season of their life.
Saturday is a free day and often spent searching for wifi.
Sunday we have church- where we get to sit in on one service and serve the other working with kids.
This month has been full of new things including Crossfit and eating a caterpillar. Neither one is my favorite thing. My favorite things happen to not be things but people- the people who invite us to Crossfit and to the movies, the people who walk us to get chicken and pizza, and the people who spend their Saturday night cooking us a local meal.
Life in Bulawayo is never structured but it’s always fun. We have less than two weeks left here in this country and I plan to spend it growing in my relationship with the Lord and the people He has placed into my life. & for that, I am super excited!
til next time,
Ellen
