ADVICE FOR FUTURE RACERS: Bring enough multivitamins to last you the entire year…and take them!

I brought a bottle of multivitamins with me out here onto the race. I think there were 100 pills in the bottle so I figured I’d take them when we got to countries where our diet didn’t give us the nutrients we need or are used to getting at home. I didn’t take them at home so this seemed logical; as long as my diet wasn’t drastically different I should be the same as at home so I’ll have plenty. Silly me.

In month three I started getting migraines more and more often. I couldn’t figure out why, I was getting enough sleep, drinking plenty of water, etc. I did a test a started taking the vitamins and surprise, the migraines went away. I realized quickly that the 100 pills would not last me for 8 more months, so I cut them in half some is better than none. That seemed to work, but not even 200 pills would be enough and so a few weeks ago I ran out. I was eating a ton of fruits and vegetables from the open market so I thought I would be fine to finish off the last 1.5 months.

A few days ago I started feeling off. Not quite sick but my body was telling me it was lacking something. I tried sleep, water, the whole routine, again. Two days ago I went to the pharmacy and purchased more multivitamins. Just in the few pills I’ve taken I can already feel myself getting back into a good routine. My energy is back, I’m just feeling generally well again.

Ok, so why am I writing to you about my vitamin situation, it’s kind of boring?

This year I have noticed the same affects when I don’t take time to spend with God and in His word. There aren’t any drastic changes but I can tell things just don’t feel right. Have you ever felt that? Things aren’t going bad, but they just don’t seem up to par or what you know they have been and can be. Maybe your attitude starts changing towards people and your situation. Whatever it is, you know something’s missing.

We need our daily dose of the bible and God just as I need my vitamin while I’m out here. This journey is ever-changing and I have to stay my healthiest to be able to cope. Life is always changing around us and we need a constant in our life; something to give us that extra boost to get through whatever changes may come our way. We don’t know what tomorrow may bring, so we have to be ready for anything.

Maybe you’ve tried the once a week dosage…get filled up on Sunday and expect it to last the week. I don’t know about you, but my vitamins are for a daily dose; just enough nutrients to give me what I need for that day. God is the same way; He gives us just enough to get through that day. Tomorrow His mercies start fresh and when we go to Him we will receive what we need for the challenges of life that will come our way.
