You know those moments and people that you may never forget? I got to add one more to my list on my last night of Malaysia.
We were busy packing and cleaning as we were leaving the next day to head off to Thailand. A knock came to the door and it was one of our contacts, David from Lighthouse, that we had been working with all month. He came bearing gifts for us of blueberry cheesecake, chocolate rum cake, and pineapple stuffed pastries. I know… yum. David had already taken us out to dinner the previous week to thank us for our help so we asked him why he was bringing these treats for us.
Back in the 70’s David traveled all throughout Europe. He met many people who took time to care. He had a family that he didn’t know take him to dinner in one country, in another a women took a day to drive him around to show him the sights. He told us of another woman who when he asked for directions to the train she drove him there (which was out of her way) and stayed with him until the train arrived just to make sure he didn’t get lost in the confusing system. David can still to this day remember what she looked like and what she was wearing.

Though our team may not always get along, we only have until November to spend with each other. We need to appreciate the family that we have during these months. Come November we may not see it now, but we will miss having each other around to go to when something comes up. David cautioned us to not take our group for granted, but to embrace the time we have left together. I may not have that remembered word for word, but that’s what I got out of it.
