The notes below were written in Uganda. We
worked with the youth of our region and were informed that a big struggle is
AIDS, mainly due to the fact that most of the youth were sexually active from a
young age. When they asked us to talk to them about AIDS and relationships, I
didn’t feel it would be helpful to just bash their life choices and tell them
to stop and change because I said so We all know that would have worked so well
though, right? Yeah, right.
I prayed about how the Lord wanted me to
address them and He reminded me where true love began and the ultimate example
of relationships. God. So here is the result of that…
Relationships
·
W/who? Parents, siblings,
friends, God…
·
Not about rules and obligation
o
I chose a relationship with god
§ What He has done in my life
§ His love attracted me to Him
§ I don’t have to do anything I don’t want to
·
God wants us to be faithful to
Him first (Exodus 20:23)
o
What are other gods?
o
Our relationships with others
should be through our relationship with God
§ Me and Michael’s focus this year. (two paths in God and Lord willing
joining together when I return home)
§ Not until I focused on God did I find Michael (My testimony Psalm
71) – not until I stopped focusing on the “when’s” and “why’s” in my life and
fully surrendered everything into God’s hands was I able to see Him working.
·
Peer Pressure (Colossians 2:8)
·
God wants to love us forever
(Hosea 2:19)
o
Just as we want a husband or
wife
·
Love each other the way the
Lord wants us to
o
Love each other and be faithful
(Hosea 3:1 & 5:7)
·
Seek God’s love and the love He
wants to show us through our relationships (Hosea 10:12)
o
Our love with Christ will
overflow toward others
·
Maybe this is new for some of
you…He will help us. (Joshua 3:4)
