My heart was blessed so much this month. The time spent with Eden handicap house, helping at the Lighthouse bakery and drop-in center, and at our main ministry with KAWAN. That word translates into “friend” and it was so great to spend time with new friends and be able to serve them as they blessed me.

I had the opportunity to work in the kitchen to help prepare, plate and serve meals. I also worked at the welcome table, greeting our “friends” as they came in and signed in. Best thing was the time we spent just sitting down and talking. It was heart breaking to see what a large percentage of these people were elderly. Where are their families? How can these precious people be the forgotten and ignored population?
To be walking down the street now at the end of the month and see so many people who we recognize and they us was really great. On Wednesday nights we participated in the street ministry during which time we would divide into 3 or 4 groups and spread out to cover the town. Those on the streets would literally be waiting for us to come on that day and some would have their prayer lists ready for us. Even if they don’t have a personal relationship with the Lord they still saw us as a trusted person who could pray on behalf of them. Hey, that’s a step in the right direction, anyway.

One of those nights the group I was with stopped to talk to the “cat lady.” She was an elderly woman who fed the cats at night as she sat on the sidewalk. That night she told us, through our translator, that since she first met the KAWAN team as they did their night ministry she has been having less and less pain in her leg and hand. She would wait for us to pray for her as she thought you could only pray in English and she didn’t know any. She also told us how she was worried about her cats especially the one that was blind. Shock came to her face as we told her she can pray for her cats and that prayer isn’t only for humans as she thought.

How much do we miss out on because are under an assumption that we can’t. What guidelines do we stick so close to that we miss the real point? Is your relationship with the Lord based on rules and regulations rather than a relationship? Are we letting those rules tell us we can’t instead of going to the Lord through whom all things are possible? I’ll be the first to raise my hand and say yes, sometimes I do.

So that was my month. I have a couple more stories to tell you, but I need to go pack now for Thailand. I only have a few more hours in this country. Wow, heading to my 5th country already. Thank you all for sticking with me over these past months. I love being able to write stories to share what the Lord is doing in, through and around me. God bless.
