“It’s hot; I’m just trying to feel the wind.”
Those simple words, said by a man who has lived his entire life in a hot climate. Such a simple phrase yet when they passed my ears had such a bigger meaning to me.
I thought about Christians. If we can sit still and take time to feel the wind to ease the feeling of the hot sun burning down, why can’t we sit still and take time to feel or hear God speaking into our lives.
How often do we keep on going with our daily work? It’s hot, we’re sweaty and tired but we don’t stop to sit in the shade, drink some water, or just rest our body.
Just as a physical needs are, so are our spiritual. We go through life working, earning a living, making friends. We take on so many things that weigh us down. It’s a long and hard road through life. Even as Christians, things get hard and we start growing weary.
I want to challenge you to just stop; go sit down in the shade, under the protection of the Comforter. Let Him refresh your soul with Living Water, lay down in the green grass…and just let the breeze of the Father’s love blow over you.
often, we expect to feel God’s presence and hear His word just as easily as we would at the beach with winds just perfect, and we can go through life like the kites we see being carried so carefree. Wouldn’t that be nice? The important thing to remember in all of this is that the breeze is sometime very light. “Trying” is a big word in the opening statement. It’s easy to stop and feel the breeze when it’s strong, but when they get too strong for us we go inside to get cover from them. Growing up where there are hurricanes means that I have seen some big winds. But what about the times when you can’t even see the leaves on the tree blowing…that’s when you have to take the time to make an attempt to find a breeze, however subtle. We go through life with the Goldie Locks mindset; we want things just right. We want to see and hear from God when it suits us. We only want to feel the wind when we are trying to fly a kite at the beach. We don’t want God to be a forceful hurricane wind, but sometimes that’s what it takes to get our stubborn souls attention. Other times we are at a more delicate place and need the small subtle prompting of a light gentle breeze. Whatever the forecast may be, we need to be prepared to search for God in whatever way He is choosing to come and be with us.
That doesn’t happen at church on Sundays, it doesn’t happen at our bible studies, it happens when you make time away from the normal routine. Put the clock down and just go be in the Presence of your Heavenly Father. Listen to His voice as you listen to the birds outside, gaze upon His beautiful face as you admire the flowers; inhale His fragrance as He wraps His arms around you.
So today, take some time to try and feel the breeze.
