One of the blog topics for this month was to write about ways to live like a local in Cambodia and this is what I’ve noticed the Khmer people doing;
- Well first of your clothing style has to step up a notch. Everyone here dresses really nice or wears silk long sleeve, pant jumpsuits. As well as flip flop socks are a huge thing, and I am not the only one to have crocs… I have found my people. (However, I’ve only worn them 2x because it has been to hot and my feet stick to them:/). Going into stores or shops its assumed that you take off your shoes to respect the store. Most of my team loves this as they all don’t like wearing shoes anyways.
- Night life here is amazing and so fun. If you ever go out at night, this is when everyone comes out. By the river there are vendors and exercise machines. There is Zumba classes that a lot of people do on a regular. Truly the place to be at night.
- In the morning most people go to the market to get the fresh and best produce for their day. Most food here is pretty spicy. At night the vendors sell street food and it always attracts lots of locals. As well was they sell roti cakes, which is a banana Nutella crepe thing. Also, the drinks here all come with a to go plastic holder so you can hold your drink while driving a Moto.
- Everyone here drives a Moto or a bike. On the Moto the locals all try to cram as many people on it as they can. As well as bikes here all are for 2 people.
- Some ways to fit in as a local here is to bow with praying hands to say hello and good bye. As well as to smile at every ex-pact person you see.
Thanks Ella:)
