During our debrief in Brasov, Romania, our squad had the opportunity to do some ministry. We were given the directions to go into the city and ask the Lord where to go and who we’re supposed to minister to. Oh, and don’t bring any money. The Lord is supposed to provide dinner for you.

Okay, I’m all about watching the Lord provide and I love seeing Him work in weird ways, but I don’t mess around when it comes to food. When they told us that the Lord was supposed to provide food for us, I immediately accepted the fact that my stomach might be grumbling tonight. I tried to stay hopeful and trust the Lord, but everything in my flesh screamed how unlikely it was dinner would be provided for us.

So, our team started out the night by praying. We each got some images, words, or specific directions. The things ranged from bunches of bananas to the color yellow to books. As we wandered the city, we were looking for these things and praying. After a while, we all felt quite lost. We didn’t know exactly what we were looking for or what the Lord had for us during this time.

As we followed these images that we saw, we came upon a church. It was a Saturday night (so we didn’t really expect anyone to be at the church) but we made our way up to the doors because we didn’t know what else to do. When we walked inside, we were surprised to see a congregation of members. A few of my teammates and I stood in the back, talking to a man who explained to us that tonight was the 25th anniversary of the church. They were celebrating how far they had come and all of the things that the Lord had done since the church started. The man told us that there wasn’t much for us to see now, but there would be a Hungarian service at noon the next day. The whole time we were talking to this man, there was another goofy older guy that tried taking pictures of the funny looking Americans (yeah, that’s us). He was having a fun time with it, pretending to hide his camera, then making goofy faces at us when we caught him with his flash on.

We realized that there wasn’t much for us at this church, so we started making our way out of the church. My other teammates were wrapping up their conversation with the pastor when the goofy old man with the camera came up to us. With the biggest smile on his face, he grabbed a bag of cereal out of his bag and handed it to me.

I swear, my jaw dropped all the way to the floor and my eyes must’ve been the size of melons. I looked around at my teammates, completely in shock at what just happened. We were given food! Cereal! Dinner!!

We weren’t given this food because we had been super spiritual or because of our undivided obedience. One goofy old man listened to the Lord when asked to give the small amount of food that he had. His obedience increased the faith of 7 girls tenfold.

Even though I doubted the Lord’s goodness, he still chose to show up. He still chose to bless our team and provide us with some weird cereal for dinner.
