Sometimes Ministry in Chile looks like…

  • Cleaning the church
  • Spending many days peeling stems off of raisins and crushing walnuts
  • Baking Christmas Bread
  • Dressing up like Santa’s elves and selling Christmas bread in the streets
  • Learning Spanish for a live Christmas nativity set
  • Talking with a man about DisneyWorld for 45 minutes
  • Eating dinner and laughing with local church members
  • Going to the market and inviting locals to a nativity scene
  • Going on an adventure with your host family
  • Speaking about what the Lord is teaching you at church
  • Herding 15 little children for Sunday school
  • Talking with a local street artist about his life and his faith
  • Sharing a meal with the Chilean church ladies
  • Eating a bowl of ice cream while yelling to the locals about Pan de Pascua (the Christmas bread that we’re selling)
  • Getting to have good conversations with teammates while wandering the streets of Los Andes
  • Making a traditional American thanksgiving meal for our host parents and talking about all of the things that we’re thankful for
  • Speaking very, very broken Spanish and English with a member of the church and getting to know his story
  • Being told that you’re hiking a mountain with the youth to plant trees. But there’s no youth. And no trees. So basically just hiking a mountain at night?
  • Being in a small group of youth and talking about what healthy relationships look like
  • Looking through pictures of your host’s favorite part of the country and listening to them talk about all of the things that they love about it… through Google translate
  • Talking to Jehovah’s Witnesses about what they believe in comparison to what I believe
  • Baking brownies for a breakfast for new people at the church
  • Making s’mores with the local shoe store owner
  • Preparing a drama to perform in the plaza
  • Cleaning our house for small groups
  • Doing logistics for the squad!
  • Talking with the taxi driver about his life
  • Praying for local church members that are struggling
  • Planning new things for the church’s Christmas Eve service.
  • Preaching a sermon about how love is slow to anger.
  • Performing a drama in the plaza and getting to lead locals to Christ!
  • Singing in the kid’s Christmas program
  • Handing out flyers for youth group
  • Water balloon fights with the youth group
  • Dancing during worship with Jose Luis!
  • Greeting all of the church members as they walk into service
  • Preparing the church for services
  • Making a final dinner for your host families!

I’ve had a super amazing time here in Chile! We were welcomed into this culture so well. I loved being able to be here for 2 months and form really great relationships with people. I love Chile and their people!
