I’ve been feeling a little bit like Noah recently. No, you can’t expect to see me outside working on building a giant boat. But nonetheless, I’ve learned a lot of life lessons from studying this story.
One of the realizations that I came to while reading about Noah’s story is the incredible amount of faith that Noah must have had. He knew that God had fulfilled His promises in the past, so he chose to build this enormous boat, despite the weather channel saying that it would be completely dry for the next 100 years. In the midst of his friends doubting him and the chance of rain looking almost impossible, he chose to trust God. He chose to believe that these promises that God made to him will come true, so he acted in obedience. Genesis 6:22 says, “So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him.” It would be normal for him to say, “No God. That’s crazy. I can’t see any rain.” But he didn’t. He acted in reckless faith and his life was saved. God came through, just like He has in the past and just like he will in the future.
Now, I’m not naive enough to think that my faith and obedience in God’s promises is unwavering. I know that there’s times when I fall short or don’t obey completely. There has definitely been points in my life where I have been unsure of how to start, considering I don’t have any idea how God is going to come through with His promises. Even though I can’t see the way that He works, He has come through time and time again. As I’m starting this Gap Year journey, I feel kind of like Noah. I know that I’ve been called to do this, but really?! 9 months? One backpack? 5 countries? $15,000?? But, as we’ve learned from Noah, where God guides, He provides. I’m trusting Him to come through with this promise, just like He has in the past.
When God calls us to something, may we be bold and courageous enough to act in reckless faith. No matter how crazy it seems.
So will you join me? As I act in obedience, I pray that you would support me prayerfully and financially. Let’s take on this mission together!
