What would it look like to be a modern day Noah?
The movie Evan Almighty and explores the idea of doing something extravagant for the Lord in a culture that is constantly screaming at you to stay inside the box. Essentially, this is a children’s movie where a business man, Evan, is asked by God to build an ark. God showed up to Evan in many comical ways, but He made His request clear.
At one point, God redefines ARK by saying that it is comprised of Acts of Random Kindness. A.R.K.
When we think about it, that’s all the Lord is asking us to do. Many days, thinking about all the poverty in the world and the people in trafficking is overwhelming. We think about all the problems that need fixing and we see the task as way too big to be accomplished. The Lord is asking us to build our arks daily in the little choices. In the small moments that require bold obedience. Because it isn’t in the huge that we change the world. We see change happen when we say “yes” every single day to whatever the Lord has planned for us.
Maybe an ark building moment is simply asking the gas station worker how they’re doing. Maybe you nail in another board when you pay for someone’s coffee. Maybe sending encouraging snail mail invites someone else into this ark building journey. Maybe, just maybe, those little moments mean way more than you could ever imagine.
As I think back on my Race, I’m constantly grateful for Baba Marfa (a Ukrainian Grandma) and Khushi (a woman from Nepal) and the huge impacts that they made of my life. But, really, they’re just people. Just like me. They’re made equally as special as I am. If they were able to make a profound impact on my life just by being who they are, I am able to do the same just by choosing into those ark moments.
As you go about your life, choose into those ark moments. Choose into those acts of random kindness. Choose into those small promptings that you hear, trusting that the Lord is building His ark with your humble “yes”.
