1. It’s humbling. Many people will treat you like you have a contagious disease. They might even tell you that you have a contagious disease (yes this happened). It makes you aware of how you treat people
  2. It teaches you to clean things well. Very well.
  3. It gives you the opportunity to wonder about all of God’s crazy creations… and what the heck He was thinking when He made them.
  4. It gives you lots of time to talk with the Lord while sitting in the shower waiting for your lice treatment to work its magic.
  5. It makes you pray a lot. Pray that they’re gone soon. Pray that your teammates don’t have it. Pray that it doesn’t spread quickly. Pray for a miraculous healing.
  6. You get to have great conversations while doing lice checks. You have the time to go deep with your teammates because, well, you don’t have anything else to do. 3.5 hour long lice checks are the best times for deep conversations. Trust me.
  7. It shows you who is really there for you. My host mom came outside at midnight and helped look through my hair for a while. She soon got grossed out, but the fact that she even made an attempt shows SO much about her character.
  8. It teaches you what’s really important. I would go through the whole experience again if it meant that I got to have the same precious moments with the kids that I interacted with.
  9. It builds your neck muscles.. Or just makes you crazy sore. I still haven’t figured that one out yet, but I’m hoping for the best.
  10. You get to see love in a super true, raw form. S/o to my squad leader, Kirsten Kuhn for spending hours every day searching my hair. Love is doing this kind of gross stuff, even when you don’t want to, because you know that it’s needed.
