Sounds epic. It’s just a ring.
My birthday was last Thursday (the seventh night of Chanukah), and I was greeted with french toast and strawberries in bed by my teammates. They also purchased (for my enjoyment) Double Stuf Oreos (chocolate creme filled!) AND Reese’s Cups. For those of you who have not been abroad and love Reese’s Cups, they are not sold outside the States. I love debrief when our coaches bring us candy, because Reese’s are inevitably part of the stash. I then proceed to eat about eight of them at once. But my lovely teammates found some in Jerusalem. And then Grant and I went out and ate more donuts and drank chai and had a glorious day. So thanks, Team Sofia, for increasing my fat-kid tendencies. Yesssss.
However, the one thing I was looking forward to doing while in Jerusalem was checking out this ringmaker that April had been to when she was in the city two years ago. The day before we left to return to Arad, we found it. And I bought myself a birthday present.
The inscription in Hebrew reads: I have found him whom my soul loves. It’s actually the same one that April has on her ring, but the design is different. It’s a reminder to me of my time in Israel, the things we’ve learned as a team and as a squad, and the fact that I have, in fact, found the one whom my soul loves and desires, and he calls this land I’m in right now his own. At the moment, I’m about to get kicked out of a mall in Arad because it’s closing, so I’ll leave you with fond wishes for a Merry Christmas.
Also, thanks to the students at FBCS in Butler for the birthday wishes and Christmas greetings. My mom scanned some of the cards you made, and I loved them.
Last thing: in the midst of this holiday season, I’m still in need of
$2340 to reach my next goal by February 1. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers, and if you feel led to make a contribution (or if you’re thinking about Christmas gifts),
consider supporting me as my team prepares to head to Uganda in January.
