The first time I went overseas it was on an old WWII cargo plane headed to the Dominican Republic when I was 12-years-old. My world was rapidly expanding and I loved it. Returning to the DR a few years later, when I was 15, felt like returning to family, and I couldn’t wait to visit and serve my Dominican brothers and sisters again. There is something beautiful and exciting about being somewhere else in the world, often speaking a different language as them, but being united by worshipping and praising the same God of the universe! I’ve determined that is something that will never grow old.
-
v In the Dominican Republic He taught me the value of non-verbal communication, hard work, sacrifice, and hand-clapping games.
-
v In Japan He showed me that one of the most beautiful places with the most beautiful architecture can be the saddest spiritually.
-
v In Spain He showed me how alike people are around the world, and how often I am not a
s bold as I should be about my faith. -
v In Mexico He showed me that it is just as important to do the background work to keep a ministry going as it is to be on the “frontlines”.
-
v In Michigan, USA, He showed me the power of a story as well as His divine faithfulness in all situations.
-
v In Mississippi, USA, He showed me again how much I love His little children and that I can do ALL things in His strength… even when I doubt myself.
-
v In Haiti He showed me the blessing of solid teamwork, love for children, the ministry of music, and the joy of having a big party (just like the ang
els do) whenever someone gets saved. -
v In Latvia He showed me the insufficiencies of my own strength, took me to the end of myself, held me in my weakness, and taught me that great leadership only comes through dependence on Him.
He knows what I need to work on, how to challenge me, and when to push me waaaay outside of my comfort zone. And as a girl striving to be more and more like Jesus Christ, I say bring it on! Whatever it takes to make there be less of the broken, sinful me and more of the majestic, holy Him is what I want. (John 3:30)
As I get ready to head out to 9 countries I’ve never been to before, and revisit two countries I’ve already fallen in love with, I can only say that I cannot WAIT to see what God teaches me next!
