This summer I have been working on high school youth group staff for my church. Every year the kids all look forward to the infamous… summer camp at HUME LAKE. I just finished packing my bags as we leave for northern California early in the morning, and God called me to sit and pray over this week. Pray for transformation, pray for healing hearts, pray that the things kid carry in the darkness will boldly rise to the LIGHT, and pray that the kids would all have an opportunity to meet God in a new, intimate way.
As I prayed over these kids, a word that was spoken over me by a dear friend earlier this week, kept coming to mind. “Feed My Sheep”
In John 21 Jesus himself was addressing his most beloved disciple Peter. He asked him three times if “he truly loved Him” and every single time Peter answered, “DUH!” (Liz’s New Translation). After Peter’s third response Jesus says “Feed My Sheep.”
First, I began to think about why I love Jesus. And more importantly about the kids and if they have reached the point where they can genuinely say, “Yes Jesus! I love you!” I could come up with all these answers of how I love Him because He’s done this, and that, and this for me but it simply comes down to… I love JESUS, just because He First Loved Me! (1 John 4:19) I also like the way that Charles Spurgeon puts it,
“I only know this,
that if He had not sought me out,
I would never have come to Him.”
Second is now that I recognize that God and His ultimate love is the only reason why I am here, in His Kingdom… what does “Feed My Sheep” mean? Well, it implies that in order to feed the sheep we must be shepherds, feeding the sheep with the WORD OF GOD! Also listed in a shepherds responsibilities is to lead them to rest and to drink. To guide them down the right path, and to battle doubt and fear with courage and boldness.
So I ask that everyone who comes across this blog to pray of my co-counselors and I lead these 15 high school girls. Pray that we will be led by the spirit, to be shepherds in all aspects. But to focus on truly feeding them the Word of God so that they may be ushered into a new sight of the love they have received from Christ. He did pay it ALL!
I HOPE TO GIVE AN UPDATE ON RETURN!
